What is a self-tapping insert?
A self-tapping threaded insert is the ideal threaded fastener when conventional thread tapping or standard nut and bolt connections are not robust enough or aesthetically desirable for the application. The selftapping insert can cut it's thread in the pre-drilled hole thanks to the combination of the selftapping cutting slot and the special (non-metric) outerthread. Best mounted in a countersunk and pre-drilled hole in materials such as thermoplastics, cast iron, hard- and exotic wood. The self-cutting insert offers numerous advantages as no pre-threading is required—simply drill a hole and screw it in. Whether it's the self-threading Rampa insert with a cutting slot or the self-tapping Rampa insert type BAV with 3 open cutting bores, with or without a head, or a version with an internal hexagon—count on us for free samples. When a standard nut-bolt connection can't be used due to aesthetic requirements or when mechanical thread tapping falls short, the threaded insert provides a solution. It significantly increases the contact area with softer and/or thinner materials, greatly enhancing pull-out strength, while the metal metric internal threading ensures a wear-resistant connection. Performance depends on the receiving material, so testing is essential.
